CBT Course
You will need to complete a CBT training course if you wish to ride a motorcycle or scooter up to 125cc. The only exception is if you obtained a car licence before the 1st February 2001 and only wish to ride a moped (a moped has an engine not over 50cc with a maximum designed speed not exceeding 28 miles per hour.)
The training course involves:-
· An introduction including a demonstration of the controls of the motorcycle or scooter.
· Practical training on how to control a motorcycle in a safe area away from the road
· Time to get used to riding and handling the motorcycle before you move out onto the road.
· Practical training on the road including a minimum of two hours riding on the road accompanied by your instructor.
This course is not a test but is designed to provide you with training to ensure you are a safe rider. You will have to complete all the training to a safe basic level to receive your certificate. If you need more than one day’s training it is not a problem as Kestrel Training offer a free second day if it is required.
On completion of your CBT you will be allowed to ride a 50cc moped if you are 16 years of age or a 125cc bike if you are 17 years of age or older. You must display L plates and you cannot carry a pillion or travel on motorways.
With L Plates a CBT licence is valid for two years. Without L PLates, the CBT does not expire after 2 years.
